Personal Statement

I am applying to this course as the modules included are suitable for what I want to do and get me on the pathway to get the career that I want to have in the future as well as teach me the skills I need.

The subject interests me as I want to go into directing films and TV and this course can show me the skills I need to be able to get there as well as being a relevant subject for the industry I want to go into. I also want to have a good general knowledge of other things within the industry so I am able to secure roles through the industry to build up my portfolio before reaching my desired goal of directing.

I believe I am suitable for the course as I have prior experience in the subject as well as having done a lot of personal research into things that are not taught on the course. I already know a lot of the lecturers on the course

I am currently studying a film and media course and have previously done film studies at secondary school which have both increased my knowledge of the subject.

I am able to work both independently as well as in groups and have good communication skills to be able to get across my ideas as well as make sure anyone within the team I am in knows what they need to be doing and know they can always ask for any help. I also believe I have good editing and camera work skills and a good level of knowledge on the theory side of filmmaking including colour theory, marketing and promotion and pre-production.

During an out-of-college activity, I was in charge of both the close-up camera and the audio when our group was helping the performing arts students with their end-of-year showreels. This gave me a large responsibility as I was the only person who had to manage two things during the shoots however I believe I managed it well.

Due to wanting to become a director, I would like to create personal short films and bring them to a film festival to be able to get my work out to other people in the industry as well as create connections with people who share the same passion.
